This is part one of two on how I think I cracked the code on “law and order” in America.
Everyone, or at least everyone who is both rational and loves this country, believes in the basic principles of our nation. For example, we all agree there needs to be law and order. No one argues, “No we don’t want law and order.”
The problem is, progressives want the emphasis to be on “law.” Conservatives, on the other hand, want the emphasis to be on “order.”
This leads to the inevitable result that progressives are highly reluctant to attain order if it involves ignoring or, worse, violating the laws. Conservatives, on the other hand, are focused on “order” and outcomes and believe it is worth suspending or breaking laws to achieve them.
Let’s look at how that applies to immigration and even the “shootings” (their term; ours is “murders”) in Minnesota. We are incensed because multiple laws were broken by ICE. We believe there’s a very slippery slope where, once the federal government starts butchering a few laws, no laws are guaranteed to be followed. Or to keep us safe.
But that’s not the priority of conservatives or MAGA. If order cannot be maintained within the confines of the laws, then law is bendable if not outright breakable. If the only way to right the wrong of Biden allowing the country to be flooded with illegal immigrants (and there is certainly legitimacy to that assertion), then a few rules broken and laws ignored is the price to be paid.
This is also why the Trump team can get away with their law-breaking and both their politicization and weaponization of every federal law enforcement agency. Did you see or read any of the transcript of the despicable appearance by the top lawyer in our entire government yesterday? To progressives (and likely most independents) it was a shameful performance. But not to the MAGA-verse and Fox-crowd. No, to them Pam Bondi could flaunt her failure to follow the law or to comply with Congressional authority with a smirk and personal attacks. Why? Her boss, her team, and the MAGA faithful don’t really care about how to get to the outcome of Trump’s innocence; they just want it done. All those pesky laws and justice for the victims aren’t a priority whatsoever.
“Victims Rights” and “Liberty and Justice for All” hold as much sincerity in the GOP as their concern for children to be born but then defund every program to give those poor kids any shot at the “pursuit of happiness” or even pursuit of school lunches. Convenient slogans that don’t hold water when examined in the light.
